World Cancer Awareness Day
World Cancer Awareness Day serves as a reminder to assess whether pharmacy and clinical strategies support early intervention, evidence-based oncology care, and long-term member well-being. Cancer outcomes are often influenced well before advanced therapies are initiated. Early detection and timely access to care play an important role in improving survival and quality of life
Key focus areas for long-term member well-being include:
Preventive screening alignment with U.S Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) and National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines to support earlier diagnosis, when treatment options are often more effective and better tolerated
Oncology pathway adherence to promote consistent, evidence-based treatment selection
Specialty pharmacy coordination to support appropriate therapy management, site-of-care decisions, and ongoing member support
Medication access oversight, including appropriate use of biosimilars, to maintain continuity of care without compromising outcomes
